If you have earned college credit elsewhere, St. Cloud State University will review all those credits and courses for content and place in the appropriate categories for SCSU program and degree requirements.
Note: SCSU cannot grant credit for non-college level courses.
Once reviewed by the registrar’s office an official transfer evaluation can be viewed on your Interactive Degree Audit Report (DARS). Your DARS will show how your credits/classes have transferred to SCSU and how those classes are used to satisfy you degree requirements.
Students may request to have Minnesota State transcripts electronically retrieved and added to your SCSU record. Do so by logging in with your StarID and password.
For courses from a previous institution that did not transfer into SCSU as you expected, please login to eServices, click on "Academic Records" followed by "Transfer Review" and submit a request with your question. You will be instructed to attach additional documentation to support your appeal:
Students are encouraged to refer to their degree audit report to see how credits transferred into SCSU. The degree audit aids in course planning and keeping students on track for graduation.
Transferology is a free tool to help determine the transferability and applicability of credits between institutions. See how your classes will transfer to SCSU, apply towards your degree, and plan for a smother transition.
Credits from Another Minnesota State College or University
SCSU will accept credits earned from a course with a grade of C- or higher as well as credits earned with a grade of D or higher used in the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC).
Non-Minnesota State College or University
SCSU will accept all credits earned from a course with a grade of C- or higher.
Previous Bachelor's or Associates Degree
If a student holds a bachelor or associate's degree, SCSU will accept all credits with a grade of C- or higher as well as credits earned with a grade of D or higher used in the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC). SCSU's Liberal Education requirement will be considered complete.
Institutions Outside of the U.S. or Canada
If a student has credits from an institution outside the U.S. or Canada, the following is taken into consideration:
Military or Technical Credits
SCSU will accept a maximum of 16 technical credits. For programs that are more technical-based, there is potential for more than 16 technical credits to transfer with departmental review.
Students who have taken courses at a Minnesota State College or University have the advantage of leveraging these transfer guarantees.
The 27 Minnesota State Transfer Pathways are designed so you can complete a specific associate degree at a Minnesota State college and transfer to St. Cloud State University to earn a bachelor’s degree without losing credits or taking extra courses.
If you complete a Transfer Pathway degree program at a Minnesota State college and are admitted to SCSU, you will be guaranteed junior status and given assurance that all 60 college credits will count toward the related bachelor’s degree.
If the pathway degree is not completed prior to your start at SCSU, then the Minnesota Transfer Pathway agreement does not apply.
Students who start a Transfer Pathway program in Fall 2021 or later will also need to complete the Racial Issues Graduation Requirement (RIGR).
St. Cloud State has articulation agreements with two-year colleges in Minnesota and elsewhere. These agreements provide for transition from two-year college programs into bachelor's degree programs at St. Cloud State University.
To ensure that all courses are transferred to St. Cloud State, Official Transcripts must be requested for any additional classes attempted after time of admission.
